How North Country Quilters & Sew ‘n Vac LLC became what it is today.

In 1983, located in the small town of Rumney, New Hampshire, the Calico Cupboard was born.  The Calico Cupboard was a bustling place, where quilters and knitters from around New England and nearby Canada would stop, visit and shop.  It was always a warm and friendly place, especially when the wood burning stove was cranking in the cold winter months.  The shop had everything the quilter could dream of!  After a successful 28 years in business, the Calico Cupboard closed its doors.

But not all was lost; a Quilter from Cranston, Rhode Island moved up to the Rumney area and re-opened the shop under a new name; Country Heart Quilters.  The shop moved about five miles away from the old Calico Cupboard to Tenney Mountain Hwy in Plymouth, NH.  In May of 2013, after a successful 8 years in business, the shop was up for sale.

Along came Michelle and Steve Vanasse from Plainville, Massachusetts with their sights set on continuing the business.  Michelle had been a customer of both the Calico Cupboard and Country Heart Quilters for years.  So in May of 2013 Michelle and Steve re-opened the business as North Country Quilters & Sew ‘n Vac LLC.  The business continued much like as before with fabrics, notions, books, and patterns for the quilter in the existing 1500 SF retail space but in November 2013 we moved into a larger 3000 SF space and took on both Pfaff and Singer sewing machines sales & service along with Miele and Riccar vacuum cleaners sales & service.  Steve handles all the machines for both the sales & service.  In addition, the larger space allowed for a much larger class room as well.
